Racing Heritage

Hitco Racing

Hitco's racing heritage dates back to the 1980's with the introduction of carbon/carbon brakes to Formula 1.  Until that point C/C brakes had only been seen on commercial and military aircraft.  In March 1980 that all changed when Hitco were approached by Brabham Chief Designer Gordon Murray and following a successful test at the Riverside Raceway in California, Hitco embarked on a development program that would see C/C brakes become the standard in F1.

Today, Hitco is proud to be the leading carbon brake manufacturer in worldwide racing with extensive involvement in several series including Formula 1, DTM and most recently GP2.

Carbon Racing Brakes

C/C brakes are at their premium in high energy situations providing outstanding consistency when subjected to repeated braking cycles.  They offer excellent thermal shock resistance and do not fade.  Furthermore inherent structural and frictional properties are achieved through the C/C makeup of both the disc and pad.

A seventy percent mass saving for a C/C disc over a conventional steel disc provides significant reductions in both unsprung and rotating mass, a lower centre of gravity, and a reduction in the polar moment of inertia in yaw.  All critical in factors in improving race car dynamics.

It is for these reasons that C/C brakes have been adopted in racing worldwide.
